Bio

Dr Trevisson grew up in Italy and did his undergraduate degree at Italy’s University of Trento (2010-2013) before obtaining a dual Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and in Environmental and Land Engineering from the University of Trento (2014-2016). He continued his research at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology obtaining his PhD in 2021 with a dissertation entitled “Sweep and clean: A laboratory investigation on fine-sediment erosion in immobile coarse-grained beds”. After his PhD, Dr Trevisson stayed on for almost 2 years (2022-2023) at the Institute of Hydromechanics before taking up a post-doctoral position in 2024 at UWA with in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Group led by Prof. M. Ghisalberti. Here he’s experimentally analysing the physical processes behind pollution dispersion in rivers and teaches a class on Fluvial Hydraulics within UWA’s Master in Environmental Engineering course.

Research Summary

Dr Trevisson’s research at UWA focusses on mass transport at the flow-roughness interface. He seeks to experimentally understand the mechanisms by which passive scalars (such as nutrients or temperature) are transported in and out of the living roughness, such as vegetation, urban canopies or sediment beds. For this purpose, he combines particle image velocimetry with planar laser induced fluorescence for velocity and concentration measurement, respectively.

He is also interested in the physical processes governing sediment transport in rivers. His research in this field tries to unravel the role turbulence plays in moving sediment grains and in forming large-scale bedforms, such as dunes or flow-parallel ribbons.
